SABOLEWSKI, Thomas Joseph, 57, of Garfield, passed away December 13, 2015. Born July 4, 1958 in Passaic, NJ. After graduating Passaic High, Tom joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He was employed by Long Island Stove in Lyndhurst, NJ, Morris B. Moving in Elmwood Park, NJ, and for the past three years, he worked for the grounds crew at the Lyons Veterans Hospital in Basking Ridge, NJ. A hard worker, sports fan of the Mets and 49ers, Tom also enjoyed fishing, bowling, camping, and spending time with family and friends. In 1986, he married Maureen and they raised their three children in Garfield, NJ. He was proud to have served his country just as well as being a proud dad and grandfather. He is predeceased by his parents, Ben and Violet, two sisters, Kay and Georgette, a brother-in-law, Daniel Schuller, and a sister-in-law, Katherine Zawadzinski. He is survived by Maureen, three children, Douglas, Amanda, and Kristopher and his wife Isabel, three grandchildren, Sean, Rachel, and Kayden, his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Schuller, three brothers-in-law, William, Walt, and David Schuller, and three sisters-in-law, Barbara Schuller, Virginia Paluch, and Colleen Vilela. Also survived by his closest niece, Kim Ortiz, three brothers, Ben, Wayne, and Frank, and a sister, Vanessa. Loving uncle to nieces and nephews on both sides, friends, and neighbors. LA FRANCA, Paula (nee Favia), age 52, of Lodi, died on December 21, 2015. Born and raised in the Bronx, she lived in Lodi for 3 years and when she married, she lived in Garfield 12 years settling in Lodi 19 years ago. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Joseph’s RC Church in Lodi and active in her church community. Paula was a member of the Rosary Society, a feast volunteer where she was the candy stand captain, helped out in the religious education office as a secretary, was on the Table Committee for the St. Joseph’s Dinner, and was going to be a charter member of the St. Joseph’s Society Women’s Axillary that will be established in 2016. In addition, she was a member of the Italian-American Women’s Forum of Lodi. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Anthony, four children, Angela Marie, Carmela, Joseph, and Christina La Franca, a brother, Giacomo Favia, a sister, Rosa Favia, and her mother-in-law, Angela La Franca. Reicen, Kathleen “Hunzy”, age 59, of Lodi, died on December 27, 2015. Born in Jersey City, she was raised in Hudson County before settling in Lodi 10 years ago. FIRULLO, Giorgio, age 72, of Little Ferry, passed away on December 31, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Giovanna (Mazzola), and beloved father of Vincenzo. Michael Albert McKeon, Sr.
McKEON, Michael A. Sr., age 72, of New Jersey and Florida, passed away February 4, 2016 at the home of his son Scott in Toms River surrounded by his family. Mike served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Ashland LSD-1 as a Machinist Mate, and post enlistment, Mike was a Police Officer with the Elizabeth Police Department NJ (Badge #178). Later he went on to drive trucks before retiring. In Mike’s downtime he enjoyed doing his crossword puzzle’s, making people laugh with his unique sense of humor, and riding with the Blue Knights of NJ – Chapter 3. SCLAFANI, Anthony “Nino”, age 83, of Garfield, died on February 22, 2016. Born in Bolognetta, Sicily-Italy, he lived there until 1963 when he emigrated to the United States settling in Garfield 53 years ago. Nino had a lifelong devotion to St. Anthony, and served 50 years as the treasurer of the St. Anthony Society in Garfield. He worked at Marcal Paper in Elmwood Park for 4 years, then was as a machine operator 30 years in the textile industry for Applique Co. in Passaic and Missbrenner Prints in Clifton retiring 1997. He was a parishioner of Mt. Virgin Church in Garfield, and was a member of Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union. Nino is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dora (nee Galvano), a daughter, Alcira Malleo and husband Antonino, three grandchildren, Michael, Steven, and Christina with her husband Christopher, and a sister, Carmela Giammanco. He is predeceased by his siblings, Maria Bordonaro, Filippa Sclafani, and Michelangelo D’Ai, and his parents, Filippo and Cira Sclafani. Visiting Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Stephen R. Kuhn
Stephen Robert Kuhn, 64, of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ entered into eternal rest on February 22, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Joanne (Kovach) Kuhn, brotherly cousin to Jim Roncoroni of Altoona, PA, and beloved uncle to Pamela Taylor of Manchester, PA and Jane Stevens of Maggie Valley, NC. Also left to cherish his memory are 13 grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Dorothy (Roncoroni) Kuhn of Altoona, PA and his sister Dorothy L. Westwood of Altoona, PA. Steve Kuhn was born in 1951 and grew up in Altoona, PA. He graduated from Altoona High School in 1969. He also attended Penn State University, Altoona campus and CUNY Law School, Queens, NY. He became a believer in Jesus Christ in 1989 and was baptized that year. During his lifetime Steve worked for many years as a musician. He also was a MSCE and was currently employed as the manager of the computer department of an Englewood, NJ company. His hobbies included obtaining a recreational pilot license. He enjoyed training dogs and competed in the Obedience Ring with his rescue doberman, Naboo Von Sussex, also known as “Boo”. Steve was active for many years in doberman rescue where he met his wife, Joanne. Steve Kuhn had many friends in the Vintage Military Vehicle hobby. He would often be seen driving his 1969 Deuce-and-a-Half in veterans’ parades and activities or carrying members of the Taejon Chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association of NJ. He also supported the U.S.S. Ling SS297 and the Historic Submarine Museum located in Hackensack, NJ. All are invited to a Celebration of Life planned for March 20, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Maywood American Legion, 135 E. Passaic St., Maywood, NJ. SULICK, Michael J., of Elmwood Park, died on February 28, 2016. He was born and raised in Garfield before settling in Elmwood Park. Mike was employed by Hoffmann LaRoche as a manager of the chemical operations department, and in his retirement, he worked part time as a fire inspector for Elmwood Park. He served in the military during the Korean War, he was a former member of the Elmwood Park Volunteer Fire Company 3, and he is a member of the NJ Exempt Firemen’s Association. He is predeceased by his wife of 60 years Concetta “Connie” Sulick in 2013. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and worked as a receiving clerk over 10 years for Great Eastern Textiles in Mahwah before retiring. He was an avid bowler belonging to the leagues at Lodi Lanes, and formerly at Wallington Lanes, and he was a parishioner of Mt. Virgin Church, Garfield.
